Yellowjackets Supplementary Material!

Books/films/TV shows that i think (might) make the show more enjoyable to watch! i'm working my way through the list. The creators were inspired by the real life incidents Yuba County Five, Donner Party & Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, i haven't picked out suitable books to read up about them yet but i'll add them when i do

The Haunting of hill house

Shirley Jackson

Comments:
"Four seekers arrive at a notoriously unfriendly Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a "haunting"; Theodora, the lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers— and soon it will choose one of them to make its own."

You have to trust me on this. journeys end in lovers meeting, okay? There's something about Jackson's writing style that really drew me in, its particularly intimate. There will be an ongoing trend of books about people in seemingly hostile environments here.

Lord of the flies

William Golding

Description:
"At the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate; this far from civilization the boys can do anything they want. Anything. They attempt to forge their own society, failing, however, in the face of terror, sin and evil. And as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far from reality as the hope of being rescued."

Clearly served as massive inspiration for the show, the group dynamics, plot and themes are incredibly similar, very enjoyable read too!

Survival: A Thematic Guide to Canadian Literature

Margret Atwood

Description:
Explores the central themes and patterns in Canadian literature, arguing that it reflects a distinct national identity shaped by the country's history, geography, and cultural anxieties. Atwood posits that "survival" is the unifying theme of Canadian literature, manifesting in various forms: physical survival against harsh landscapes, cultural survival against colonial influences, and psychological survival in the face of alienation or oppression. The book identifies recurring motifs, such as the "garrison mentality" (a defensive, insular mindset), victimhood, and the struggle with nature or identity.

I found it hugely insightful in figuring out how canadian literature tropes (especially the garrisons mentality) might've influenced the concept of the wilderness, i highly recommend checking it out!

Twin Peaks

David Lynch

Description:
In the quiet town of Twin Peaks, near the Canadian border, the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer shocks the community. When another girl is found near death the FBI sends Agent Dale Cooper who, along with Sheriff Truman investigate the case. Twin Peaks is beautiful when the sun is shining, but beneath the calm surface lie terrible secrets.

Final destination

James Wong

Description:
Alex Browning is going on a high school graduation trip to Paris with his fellow students. Before Volée Air Flight 180's take-off, Alex has a premonition that the flight will explode in mid-air, killing everybody on board. He panics and attempts to stop the flight before take-off and the resulting commotion leads to a handful of passengers being left behind, sparing himself, five classmates, and a teacher from the actual blast. Having escaped fate, they gradually discover that death is now hunting them down, claiming their lives one by one.
